Reckoning with the limitations of the material, Call and Response was created through chaotic crocheting and repetition. My goal was to make objects with mass built through crochet. This repetition transformed the material from flat weightlessness to dense heavy forms. The title of this piece speaks to my intuitive process and the many Southern traditions that rely on call and response, from religious rituals to popular resistance struggles.
